An Evening Inspired by Selma Is Now

  • Northwest African American Museum 2300 South Massachusetts Street Seattle, WA, 98144 United States (map)

Join us on August 6th for a special program commemorating the 60th anniversary of the signing of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 following our Freedom Day celebration.

Dr. Terry Scott, noted historian and educator, will provide a lecture reflecting on the legacy of the Voting Rights Act and its pivotal place in the civil rights movement. Following the lecture, Dr. Scott will be joined in conversation by Charles Mauldin, civil rights leader and foot soldier of the Selma to Montgomery marches, and Brandon Bird, CEO of NAAM for a dialogue exploring how the courage and sacrifice of those who marched from Selma continue to resonate today.

Together, they will reflect on the enduring lessons of the Selma to Montgomery movement — the power of ordinary people to spark extraordinary change, the role of young leaders on the front lines, and how that spirit lives on in the challenges and opportunities our communities face now.

We invite you to be part of this meaningful evening of remembrance, reflection, and inspiration.
