Freedom Day at NAAM

  • Northwest African American Museum 2300 South Massachusetts Street Seattle, WA, 98144 United States (map)

Join us on June 5 for Freedom Day: Honoring the March Against Fear, a powerful commemoration of one of the most pivotal yet often overlooked chapters of the Civil Rights Movement.

In 1966, civil rights activist James Meredith began a 225-mile "Walk Against Fear" from Memphis to Jackson to confront the ongoing threats facing Black Americans in the South. After he was shot on the second day, civil rights leaders and hundreds of supporters continued the march, turning his solo protest into a powerful movement for justice and empowerment.

This Freedom Day, we honor their courage, resilience, and the ongoing struggle for equal rights. Come together with us to reflect, remember, and recommit to the fight for freedom.
