The Power of the River

  • Northwest African American Museum 2300 South Massachusetts Street Seattle, WA, 98144 United States (map)

Join Ed Taylor, Vice Provost and Dean at the University of Washington, for a discussion of his new memoir The Power of the River. In conversation with Seattle legend Reggie Brown, Taylor reflects on a life shaped by love, loss, resilience, and growth.

From his childhood in Lompoc, California to a life-changing basketball scholarship at Gonzaga, Taylor’s journey explores identity, belonging, and the challenges young Black men often face in academic spaces. Through it all, he highlights the power of community, mentorship, and grace.

Blending personal story with universal themes, The Power of the River is a moving reflection on purpose, perseverance, and the people who shape our paths.
