Freedom Day at NAAM

  • Northwest African American Museum 2300 South Massachusetts Street Seattle, WA, 98144 United States (map)

Join us on July 26 for all day free admission on Freedom Day as we recognize July 26 1948, the day President Truman signed Executive Order 9981, which desegregated the U.S. armed forces and marked a significant step toward racial equity in the military.

It declared the policy of the President to be "equality of treatment and opportunity for all persons in the armed services without regard to race, color, religion or national origin".

This Freedom Day, we honor their courage, resilience, and the ongoing struggle for equal rights. Come together with us to reflect and remember.
