Community Living Room
Overlooking Jimi Hendrix and Sam Smith Park, the Community Living Room is the heart of all NAAM activity and a great place to start your journey through the Northwest African American Museum.
The decor, inspired by African American designers, is relaxing and inviting with lounge areas ideal for families to sit and commune around Black art, literature, and culture. The community living room has Black children's books, biographies, sciences books as well as traditional Black games such as Mancala. Dedicated to the community of Seattle, the Community Living Room also features a community newsstand where community organizations can put their flyers and info about community events as well as the highly anticipated Sistah Sci-fi Book vending machine. The Living Room also boasts the Freedom of Expressions exhibit curated by ONYX fine arts collective that features art from a rotating collection of local Black artists. There is something for everyone in the Community Living Room and it is a wonderful place to start and end every visit to NAAM.
