This October, NAAM’s monthly Freedom Day commemorates Selma’s Freedom Day of October 7, 1963 when hundreds of Black residents stood in line at the Dallas County Courthouse, risking intimidation and violence to claim their right to vote. Their courage exposed the brutal reality of voter suppression and ignited the movement that led to the Selma-to-Montgomery marches and the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
