Visit Us

The Northwest African American Museum is housed in the historic Colman School building (built in 1909) which overlooks a beautiful, sprawling green park, named after rock legend, Jimi Hendrix, in the heart of Seattle’s Central District. It’s just 2.3 miles or 10 minutes by car, from downtown.

NAAM reopened its building operations on 2023 Martin Luther King, Jr. Day - January 16, 2023. We are open - come and visit us!

Free parking is available in our parking lot, directly outside the museum. Please park in museum parking only (labeled MUSEUM), as there is resident parking in the other spots. The museum is easy to access via public transportation as well. Please visit King County Metro Trip Planner for directions.
