National Finalist for the National Medal for Museum Service Award
March 14 - April 30
NAAM has been named a national finalist by the Institute of Museum and Library Services for the 2019 National Medal for Museum Service Award, the nation’s highest and most prestigious federal award bestowed upon a museum in the United States.
This is tremendous news – only two previous Seattle museums (Wing Luke and the Pacific Science Center) and only two previous black museums (Birmingham Civil Rights Museum and the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Life of New York City) have ever received this award. The press release listing the other 14 finalist museums can be viewed here. Winners will be announced at the end of April and there will be a ceremony in D.C. in June.
NAAM was nominated for this award by Congressman Adam Smith. April 11th will be deemed “Love on NAAM Day.” So join us via our social media platforms, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook, and share why you love NAAM and what a difference it has made in your life.
