This program is inspired by NAAM’s newest exhibition “The Girls”. This exhibit features an interactive installation by New Mexico artist Iris Vazquez, features three half-life-sized bronze sculptures of full bodied-women: Mabel, Bess and Big Rose. As the exhibition space is entered, the women begin their conversation about, body image, food, politics, life, death and love. “The Girls” chat about everything under the sun, prompting listeners to reflect on the importance of having spaces where we feel at home to be ourselves, share our humanity and bond with our friends.
“The Girls are these women. Seeing their dress and mannerisms, it is easy to see how relaxed they are with each other and with themselves. Comfortable in their bodies, they eat, laugh, and express themselves with complete honesty and emotion.”
