Coming to the Table was launched with a four-day gathering in January 2006 at Eastern Mennonite University (EMU) in Harrisonburg, Virginia. The idea for the gathering came from Will Hairston and Susan Hutchison; both white descendants of significant American enslaving families. Amy Potter Czajkowski, who was on the staff of The Center for Justice & Peacebuilding at EMU, nurtured the program and obtained grant funding. Amy and David Anderson Hooker, consulting with other experts and CTTT members, developed our Coming to the Table approach and model. They led trainings in what we now call the Transforming Historical Harms (THH) model. Meet with members of Coming to the Table to learn about their own journey of family discovery…and healing.
