Readin’ and Ridin’ Bike Rodeo
Great for kids 6 years to 11 years
Come to the Bike Rodeo! Learn safe riding tips from local bike organizations like Cascade Bicycle Club, Bikeworks, Family Bikes and more! Books on Bikes team members will be present with their book trailer to check out books, sign up kids and families for library cards, and make DIY spoke cards. Please join us for this FREE, fun, and family-friendly event!
Our partner Bikeworks provide BMX bikes and helmets ( you are welcome to BYOBH – Bring your own bike and helmet!) in order to have the opportunity to ride bikes and gain confidence in their abilities by progressing through a series of skills courses. These courses are designed to give them instruction on – and test – their ability to ride while signaling, while maneuvering around objects, and while making turns.
As part of the bike rodeo, youth will be taught skills in stations such as “driveway rideout”, “scanning”, “rock dodge”, and “tight turns”. They will also learn the correct hand signals and be tested in our “crazy crossroads” section in an effort to teach youth how to avoid the most common types of accidents.
Come check out our friends from Seattle Public Library’s Books on Bikes, Cascade Bike Club and Family Bike!
